Speakers:
Mr. Newal Agnihotri will speak about Ramayana as a tool for education among schools of all levels in the community. His talk will focus on the evolution and current status of Ramayana conferences by Northern Illinois University in collaboration with University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and International Ramayana Institute of North America. Contribution of Ramayana performances to education in both India and United States will also be discussed. Ramayana is an ancient Indian epic which has contributed immensely to cultural and religious harmony among people of Southeast Asia. Professionally, Dr. Agnihotri's is the founder and publisher of Nuclear Plant Journal. He is also passionate about promoting "Unity in Diversity " related projects. He has been active in educating US audiences about the benefits of UNESCO to US public and US government till United States rejoined UNESCO on October 1, 2003. He is a cofounder of international Ramayana Institute of North America, an 11-year-old Chicago-area organization, which holds conferences and performances in Chicago-area. It has a proven track record as an educational tool in Southeast Asia.
Mrs. Deepti Suri and Mrs. Suman Goyal are both teachers. Mrs. Suri has been teaching Hindi at the Chinmaya Mission (Badri), Chicago for the past 4 years. Mrs. Goyal is a teacher by profession at CPS for elementary school. They will present a broad plan to introduce Hindi and Indian culture in the local public school systems. They will present their findings about the interest and funding sources to introduce Hindi in US education system. Mrs. Goyal has experience in working with the Center for Cultural Resources and Training in Delhi. These women will be supported by Ramesh Dorairajan, Mr. Bhaskar, Mrs. Menon and Bhavna Malhan.
Mr. Avinash Dear of the Education Working team from Westmont in the Western Suburbs will update us on the Policy Issues that are transforming education in India. Mr. Dear is a Chartered Accountant by education and is currently an SAP Consultant for Planning and Consolidations. In New Delhi, he founded The Idea Machine, which focused on Problem-Solving using multiple computer-assisted techniques e.g: Computer-Assisted Brainstorming, Data Mining, Expert Systems and Discrete Simulation. He is married to Madhoolica, an interior designer and has two children Pratham and Srishti.
Mr. Anil Bhatt, Regional Vice President of Ekal Vidyalaya and an IDCA founding member and will give us and update on Ekal Vidyalaya which is a renowned organization that provides value-based primary education to tribal and other underprivileged communities throughout rural India.
